Client Business
Boehringer Ingelheim is one of the world’s leading research-driven pharmaceutical companies, founded in 1885 in Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany. Still family-owned today, the company has grown into a global enterprise with a strong focus on human and animal health. Known for its commitment to innovation, Boehringer Ingelheim has developed numerous breakthrough therapies across respiratory, cardiovascular, oncology, and metabolic diseases. With a long-standing legacy of scientific excellence and sustainability, the company continues to drive advancements in healthcare through research, partnerships, and cutting-edge technologies.
Challenges with a Legacy System
The client was in the middle of a critical S/4HANA transition when they encountered significant integration challenges. They needed to connect third-party logistics (3PL) providers and their eLIMS laboratory management systemseamlessly with the new S/4 environment a task that required deep technical expertise and precise process alignment.
Compounding the complexity, a key SAP resource from SAP Germany was no longer available, creating an urgent skills and capacity gap within the project team. Without immediate backfill support, the integration roadmap risked major delays and potential disruption to both supply chain operations and laboratory workflows.
Bolders Consulting Group stepped in by providing a hybrid Solution Architect and Project Lead to close both the technical and managerial gaps in one role. Acting as a bridge between IT, business stakeholders, and the systems integration partner, we designed the complete end-to-end architecture required to integrate the 3PL providers and eLIMS laboratory system into SAP S/4HANA.
Beyond architecture design, BCG took ownership of project planning, execution, alignment workshops, solution testing, and stakeholder communication. This combined technical-functional leadership and project management approach ensured that the integration roadmap stayed on track, decisions were made swiftly, and all parties remained synchronized from concept to validation.
Immediate, Tangible Benefits:
The unified technical and project leadership approach delivered by Bolders Consulting Group ensured that the integration was completed on schedule, fully aligned with the broader S/4HANA transition timeline. By eliminating coordination gaps and driving accountability across all teams, the project progressed smoothly without delays or rework.
As a result, the customer achieved their milestone targets with confidence, reinforcing trust in the overall transformation program and demonstrating the effectiveness of a streamlined, leadership-led delivery model.
